A pool table must be well leveled for the balls to move correctly on the felt cloth.A table that is not well leveled negatively affects the accuracy of players' shots, causing the balls to roll towards a certain edge or area of the table itself. With some tools that can be purchased at DIY or home improvement stores, such as a level and shims, you can level your pool table.Use the tips below to do this.
-
Consult the manual to understand what type of pool table it is. It might, for example, have metal plates or adjustable legs, or neither. The manual will give you specific information about your pool table.
-
Check the level of the table. Use a level to determine if the table is level.
- Place the level in the middle of the pool table. If this is level, the bubble will be positioned between the two lines in the middle of the glass tube. If, however, the bubble stops outside the space delimited by the two lines, it means that it is necessary to raise or lower some legs of the table.
- Use the level to take the same measurement on all four sides of the table.Determine if the table height needs to be adjusted.
-
Add metal plates to the base of the table legs. Follow the instructions in the manual to do so.Add metal plates underneath each leg that needs to be raised.
-
Adjust the height of the table legs.
- Remove any screws, tacks or pins from the leg whose height you want to adjust.
- Move your legs up and down until the table is level.Follow the instructions in the manual to do this.
- Adjust the height of each table leg that needs to be raised or lowered.
-
Use shims to bring the table level.
- Get an assistant (or several) to lift the corner of the table where you need to adjust the leg height.
- Place a shim under the leg.
- Ask your assistant to lower the table again.
- Repeat the process for each corner of the table where the leg needs to be adjusted.
- Use a level to check the horizontality of the table.
- Continue adding shims under the table legs until the pool table is level.

- Use a marble to calculate the slope of the table.
- Roll it onto a section of the pool table.
- Try to understand if it is skewed towards a particular edge of the table.
- Repeat the same process in different places on the pool table.
- Adjust the table if you notice that the ball is deflected towards a particular edge of the table.
-
Use a smooth glass or marble plate to help you calculate the level.
- Place the glass plate in the middle of the pool table.
- Place the marble slab on top of the glass one, in the middle. The ball will stay in place if the table is level.
- Adjust the table if you notice the ball moving across the glass plate towards a particular edge.
- Repeat the process for each side of the table, placing the glass and marble plates at a distance of 5-7.5 cm from each hole.
