Steps
-
Block the scarf if the type of yarn allows it. (Usually only wool blend or wool can be blocked.Acrylic does not freeze.) This involves ironing the fabric or steam ironing.Always check the label of the yarn used!Heat the iron to a medium-low power level.Adjust according to the type of yarn used for knitting.Iron the scarf on the wrong side, where the seams are visible.
-
Make a border. Add another 4 stitches at each end (K1K1 on the right side, K1K1K1 on the wrong side) or in garter stitch (K2 on the right side and K2 on the wrong side).
-
Make a selvedge. Add 2 more total points. Now you will always work from the first stitch to the last stitch, taking care to bring the thread towards you before braiding it, so that it will be ready to be worked straight. This will create a straight "selvedge", which will be very useful for sewing the various knitted pieces together.
-
Sew a fabric backing to the right side of the scarf.
-
Use a stitch that doesn't tend to curl. Here are some recommended points:Rice Stitch, Garter Stitch and Basketweave Stitch.Absolutely avoid the stockinette stitch.Advertising
