Macrame ("MAC ruh may") is the art of tying rope into gods knots to create a useful or decorative shape. This manual art, very popular in the 70s in the USA, is now revived in the form of jewelery or knotted jute bags.To work in Macrame follow these steps.
-
Find an object to use as support. Usually this will be a ring or a horizontal bar.Although macrame is made to stay on its medium permanently, it's a good idea to practice using a pencil.
-
Place a loop of rope over your stand.
-
Fold the ring over the top of the stand.
-
Thread the ends of the rope through the ring.
-
Pull gently to tighten the knot.
-
Gather the long ends of the rope.
- Starting about 30cm from the attached end, wrap the string around your thumb.
- Cross the string over your palm and wrap it around your little finger.
- Repeat until you reach the end of the rope.
- Tie a knot or rubber band around the "butterfly" you create with the string. While it's easy to add extra rope as you work, it won't get in the way of your work.
