One of the most debated topics of recent years is that of sustainable cities. Not only because in a few years, in 2050, 70 percent of the world population will live in urban centers (today we reach 56 percent);but also because theAgenda 2030, or the UN action program signed by 193 countries which aims to achieve 17 environmental and social sustainability objectives by 2030.Among these, number 11 stands out:the creation of increasingly inclusive, safe and resilient cities.

But how do you guarantee environmental and social sustainability for a city? And in such a short time, then?A possible answer comes from urban regeneration. We at LifeGate have been dealing with this topic successfully for some years and this is why today we are more interested than ever in third sector entities willing to share ideas and projects, to generate a positive impact on citizens.

Regeneration and shared values

This term refers to a process of recovery of infrastructures and services with the involvement of the community and with minimal consumption of resources. It therefore does not just mean renovating dilapidated buildings or placing a few street lamps in poorly lit areas, but devise complex projects who, with the support of the community itself, can return abandoned places to citizens through a combination of actions and tools.

To give some examples, we can cite the interventions supported by LifeGate in Rome and Milan. In both cases, regeneration passed through art, sport, culture, landscaping, the application of artificial intelligence and digitalisation, all to promote social inclusion and community involvement.

The Casilino Sky Park it was built in 2022 in the heart of the V Municipality of the Capital on the fourth uncovered floor of the multi-storey car park in the area, it is dedicated to the inhabitants of the Alessandrino, Centocelle, Torre Maura and Torre Spaccata neighborhoods and is equipped with sports fields, coworking spaces, event areas and spaces for children.

Tunnel Boulevard it is instead a 2024 project which had the objective of revitalizing and redeveloping the area of the Lombard capital between Viale Monza and Via Padova, north of Piazzale Loreto. It is one of the increasingly multicultural peripheral areas of the city and characterized by the presence of railway tunnels left for a long time in a state of decay and today made more beautiful and safe thanks to structural interventions and street and poster art works, supported by the creation of spaces for sports and events.

Continue on this path

Our goal is to continue on this good path also in 2025, aware that many cities in our country could benefit from the benefits of urban regeneration projects, on the one hand to strengthen their social fabric and on the other to become more resilient. For this, LifeGate asks a third sector bodies and associations Of share proposals of urban regeneration to be examined to develop future actions.Simply fill out the following form and send an abstract of the proposal.
