Isolated since Saturday 29 June, Cogne will soon have its own access road.Transit windows for supplies will be organized from Sunday

AOSTA – The reopening date of the regional road to Cogne will be known on Monday 15 July. The town of Gran Paradiso, in Valle d'Aosta, has been isolated since the late afternoon of Saturday 29 June, when a storm caused destruction in three different points of the road, the town's only connection with the rest of the region and the rest of the world .This afternoon, the Valle d'Aosta Region and the regional Civil Protection organized a meeting with journalists to take stock of the situation:“On Monday we will be able to give fairly punctual information on the reopening of the road to normal traffic” said the president of the Valle d'Aosta Region, Renzo Testolin. Both the transport of tourists by helicopters, hypothesized by the Minister of Tourism Daniela Santanchè, and the organization of convoys for the pick-up and drop-off of residents and tourists are excluded.

SERVICE ASCENT FOR FUEL AND WASTE, THEN BLOCKED VEHICLES DESCENT

From Sunday, three different temporary reopening windows of the road will be organized. The first will be on Sunday 14 July, from 12pm to 5.30pm, to allow the ascent of vehicles to refuel the town's fuel distributor and waste vehicles to empty the "molok", the basement containers.A second opening window, reserved for services and work activities, will be on Wednesday 17 July, for the whole day;on this occasion, the bypass track upstream of the regional road at kilometer 9.4 will be used for the first time, where the damage to the roadway was very serious. On Sunday 21 July, again from dawn to dusk, the descent of the approximately 500 cars stuck in Cogne is scheduled.“We prefer not to make predictions, but to communicate in a reliable manner” a reopening date, explained Testolin, taking into account the storms in these hours which could delay the timing “due to the adverse weather situation”.The logistical organization of the ascent and descent of the vehicles will be at the Aymavilles sports field, where the helicopters that ensure connections with Cogne land these days.
