ROME – This morning a foreign tourist was attacked by a bear in the locality of Naroncolo, in the municipality of Dro.The man was rescued by medics and airlifted to the Santa Chiara hospital in Trento with injuries to his limbs.Forestry staff also intervened promptly and are carrying out the necessary investigations. The confirmation comes from the province of Trento. The man was attacked by the bear, who with its claws wounded him in the legs and arms.

BEAR HURTS TOURIST, AIDAA:RECONSTRUCTION OF WHAT HAPPENED IS TRANSPARENT

“This morning a foreign tourist had a close encounter with a bear while walking in the Naroncolo area, in the municipality of Dro' in the province of Trento.According to initial reports, the man was hit by the bear's claws on the legs and arms and was airlifted to the Santa Chiara hospital in Trento. The Italian Association for the Protection of Animals and the Environment AIDAA intervenes on the matter with a statement:'First of all, let us wish the injured tourist a speedy recovery, but we immediately ask for a real reconstruction of what happened, in-depth investigations that reconstruct the exact reconstruction of the dynamics of the facts before making definitive decisions on the future of this bear, let's remember that the forest is the home of bears and other wild animals and that when we enter it we are the ones who have to respect their rules'”.This is what we read in a note from AIDAA.

“AIDAA confirming the sending of the report for the killers of the MJ5 and F36 bears killed respectively by shooting and poison and confirming that the same names and surnames are indicated of those who animal rights activists believe to be the moral instigators of these murderers, he also communicates that he will shortly present a complaint to the Trento prosecutor's office asking for check whether information signs regarding the presence of the bear are present in the area where the attack occurred and the related warnings and, if so, whether they have been respected", concludes AIDAA.

TOURIST ATTACKED, ENPA:GET CLARITY AND APPLY OUR PLAN FOR COEXISTENCE

“We wish a full and speedy recovery to the tourist who was apparently attacked by a bear this morning in Dro, Trentino. However, we warn the PAT from taking new persecutory initiatives against plantrigrades. It is essential that the Province of Trento first clarifies the circumstances of the alleged attack, ascertaining whether the animal was a mother with puppies in tow, whether the area was equipped with adequate signs, whether the man was not in the company of a dog and if he had adopted all the precautionary measures that must be followed in wooded areas".This was declared by the National Animal Protection Agency which recalls, once again, delays on the part of municipal and provincial authorities in applying those prevention measures which can concretely improve coexistence between humans and bears and prevent possible conflicts with anthropic activities. In particular, the animal rights association recalls the slowness with which the positioning of anti-bear bins in the inhabited centers of the Trentino area proceeds. Many municipalities - reports Animal Protection - are still without them and this represents a very serious omission since, as is known, it is precisely organic waste that attracts bears to urban centres."In the past few days - continues Animal Protection - we have repeatedly asked to be informed about the 'state of the work', urging the adoption of a road map but the Trentino institutions have once again pretended nothing happened".

Without prefiguring pogroms, persecutions or, even worse, extermination campaigns, the events of Dro demonstrate how necessary it is to learn to coexist with plantigrades and, more generally, with all wildlife, taking example from the virtuous experiences of those territories - see the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park - which have managed to adopt models of coexistence with bears, which have also produced positive repercussions on the economy.“In the aftermath of the tragic death of Andrea Papi, we presented it to the Ministry of the Environment a seven-point plan that indicated a series of concrete actions that would have allowed and still allow to prevent possible conflicts with bears. But, as often happens in our country, that plan remained a dead letter. Those interventions could be applied with full success even today, however the Ministry and PAT prefer to focus on the policy of indefinite postponements, with the consequences that we all see".
