VENICE – In total, the fishermen of the Scardovari Consortium will be delivered over 14 million specimens measuring three or four millimeters in length:it is the seed of Vongola verace which will then be sown in the lagoons where production has been eliminated due to the invasion of the blue crab.In recent days, through the operational arm of the Veneto Region, Veneto Agricoltura, it has been delivered to the fishermen the first of two lots that fall under the emergency measures approved last autumn by the Region.
“The intervention is part of a package of initiatives implemented by the Veneto Agriculture Regional Agency thanks to the 180,000 euros deriving from the Region's budget adjustment last year, and the objective is to reactivate the production of real clams, an excellent product from the Veneto and the Delta, eliminated by the voracity of the Blue Crab - explains the regional councilor for Fisheries, Cristiano Corazzari - it is the first batch of true clam seed which will be managed in protected environments, the blue pre-entry structures, far from the voracious crab.Later when the specimens have reached size of 12 millimeters will be sown in the lagoons of the delta, in protected, fenced areas, where the crab will not be able to access."
The Region has "implemented all possible measures to help our fishermen - adds Corazzari - we thank the Government for what it has done to date, but we urge the ministry once again to arrive the appointment of the Commissioner but also to approve the proposal of the Northern Adriatic Fisheries District to use Feampa resources to support the fight against blue crab."
