The European directive comes into force which places a ban on producers

ROME – Takes today 3 July the European obligation to sell plastic bottles with caps secured with a flap. This is the so-called 'solid cap':a measure implemented to prevent dispersion into the environment.

In fact, it is about the objects that are found in greater numbers on the beaches.20 million have been found in more than 30 years on coasts around the world.

Fixing them to the bottle, like this, the risk of them being thrown away or lost and not recycled is avoided. The directive requires each Member State to establish its own design requirements. The obligation also applies to "composite packaging" such as milk or fruit juice cartons, but not glass containers.

The ban was born with the Directive 2019/904 of the European Parliament and Council of 5 June 2019, known as the SUP Directive, or the Single Use Plastics Directive.Since 2021 it has launched the ban on sale of disposable plastic products:plates, cutlery, straws and cotton swabs.

SALVINI'S CONTRARY OPINION, CALENDA'S IRONIC REPLY

A few weeks before the European elections of 8 and 9 June, during the electoral campaign, Matteo Salvini had spoken out against this legislation. On social media he had published an image of a man drinking from a bottle with a fixed cap and one in which the cap is not present. “Surreal eco-regulations wanted by Brussels? No thank you", wrote the minister.Post that sparked ironic comments and criticism.

Among the taunts was that of Carlo Calenda in a video titled “Instructions for opening a bottle, drinking and closing it again.Salvini you can do it".“A normal person puts the cap aside and drinks,” the Action leader says in the clip before ironically explaining how to drink from the bottle.
