Climate, 'Last generation' activists chain themselves under the statue of David in Florence

ROME – Today four Last Generation activists inside the Accademia Gallery in Florence, in the room where Michelangelo's David is exhibited, sat down and chained themselves to the protective railing under the statue.

A foreign visitor, we read in a note, "sat together with the Last Generation citizens.The courage of the young David against the Giant Goliath represents the power that every person has to counteract the injustices of power and the powerful.Inside the Accademia Gallery, four other people from the Last Generation played De André's Canzone di Maggio and distributed leaflets about the Campi Bisenzio flood.The song accompanied an appeal to participate en masse in the actions of 11 and 25 May in Rome".

Last Generation calls for the creation of "a preventative, permanent and participatory Repair Fund to be included annually in the State budget.The money will have to be obtained through the elimination of Environmentally Harmful Subsidies (SAD), the taxation of extra-profits of fossil fuel companies, the cutting of salaries, bonuses and benefits of their managers, the enormous expenses of politics and the increasingly huge military expenses .For this reason we will continue to take to the streets, to carry out actions of non-violent civil disobedience, taking responsibility for our actions, facing repression, courts and trials".
