«We need responsibility towards the planet, towards new generations and towards future ones».It is a new call for responsibility, but also for the acceleration of green transition processes, the one pronounced today, 12 May, by the President of the Republic Sergio Mattarella, on the sidelines of his state visit to Norway. In the morning, the Head of State visited the Trondheim Polytechnic, a cutting-edge center in the development of green technologies, in particular on the wind energy front. After visiting the University's energy laboratories, the President of the Republic observed:«Our societies have become fully aware of the dramatic effects caused by climate change which require all of us to radically rethink the foundations of our life systems, both economic and productive ones».Added to this was «the senseless aggression of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, which also made us fully aware of the strategic value of energy resources, as well as food resources, which cannot be an improper form of pressure and threat against the autonomy and independence of other peoples."
In light of this, the Head of State reiterated that the achievement of energy security and independence, but also food independence, does not translate into merely "relying exclusively on traditional energy sources, failing to commit to the fight against climate change" .Instead, a "change of pace in innovation is necessary, not just a change in supply routes and suppliers".In short, «a new paradigm is needed:we need to have the ambition to be in the leading group that leads the change, rather than in the tail group aimed at managing a past that is running out of steam. We need to accelerate the green transition."The Head of State observed that «thanks to an increasingly interconnected electricity grid, the complementarities between wind and solar energy – whose production evidently depends on daily weather conditions – will in fact be able to contribute to the security of supply and reduce the risks linked to variable nature of renewable sources", recalling the strategic nature ofElmed power line, which will unite Tunisia and Italy.
