The project, the first in Italy, involves restaurants and bars in the airport, which have agreed to revolutionize customer service. In 2024, half a million bottles will disappear, they could fill a football field

BOLOGNA - Enough to fill a football pitch:in total 500,000 half-litre plastic bottles which will disappear from the waste bins of theBologna Airport, the first in Italy to declare war on the use of disposable plastic with the help of the bars and restaurants present in the airport. The first commercial businesses to have joined the project were rewarded today by the Marconi management together with Plastic Free Onlus.

PLASTIC FREE RESTAURANTS AND BARS

THE three shops in the Vecchia Malga and the Osteria La Bologna have obtained the 'Plastic free' recognition, having completely eliminated plastic in customer service, while Autogrill, My Chef and Heinemann they won the 'plastic reduction' label for having reduced the use of plastic. The bottles will be replaced with cardboard bricks (for natural water) and cans (for carbonated water).

WAR ON SINGLE-USE PLASTIC

All restaurant operators and the duty free chain have voluntarily signed a commitment to progressively reduce single-use plastic in its stores, to achieve its complete elimination:the objective, at hand, is therefore to cancel 500,000 bottles, replacing them with others made of cardboard, glass and cans.

STOP PLASTIC CONTAINERS AND CUPS

This is just one of the actions implemented to reduce single-use plastic:they were plastic containers for take-away food and glasses have also been eliminated and were adopted processes for the integral recovery of plastic films with which the pallets of duty free products are wrapped. In this way it is estimated that in the stores that have joined the project single-use plastics will be reduced by around 50%. “This is a stage in our sustainability journey that started some time ago.We are the first airport to do so and we want to set an example for others too", explains the CEO, Nazareno Ventola.
