TUSCANIA (VT) – Deposits for the storage of radioactive waste, expansion and construction of new landfills, installation of photovoltaic and wind systems. From Tuscia comes a strong cry of alarm for the environmental protection of the territory.“The measure is full,” said the president of the Province of Viterbo Alessandro Romoli, during his speech at the 'Tuscia to be saved' meeting which took place on Saturday afternoon at the municipal theater of Tuscania.“Both as a provincial council and as a conference of mayors we have asked for an urgent meeting with the president of the Lazio Region, Francesco Rocca, so that he can listen to our territory. We are waiting for your response", said Romoli, who recalled that "on our part there is no ideological battle, but we cannot take on needs that do not belong to us and which are linked to speculation".
Franco Indaco, representative of the Arlena Ambiente committee, went into detail: “Of the 67 possible waste storage sites, 22 are located in our territory and 4 are in the municipality of Arlena di Castro. So the risk of a site being chosen here is real".As regards plants from renewable energy sources (RES), resolution 171 of 2023 of the Lazio Region counted that "78% of these are located in our province. We are under significant pressure, and now there is also the risk that the Arlena di Castro landfill will also be built" which has obtained two out of three authorizations from the Lazio Region.“To all this we say 'enough'”, concluded Indaco.
THE SUPERINTENDENT:THE TERRITORY HAS BEEN TARGETED
Simona Carosi, archaeologist and Etruscologist of the Superintendency of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape for the province of Viterbo and southern Etruria, explained that "the territory has been targeted by renewable energy plants without any planning. There was an assault on the territory in the face of which we are trying to protect the territory." On the Arlena di Castro landfill, the mayor of Tessenano, Ermanno Nicolai, attacked bluntly:“We contest the fact that the procedure is wrong, it must be reset. Rome asks for electricity and here it only sends us waste. We ask the Region to suspend this procedure."
Regional councilor Nazzareno Neri also participated in the event and made a commitment to those present to bring governor Rocca to the area as soon as the budget session of the Lazio regional council is concluded. The conference was opened by the mayor of Tuscania, Fabio Bertolacci, while the mayor of Arlena Di Castro, Publio Cascianelli, did not participate.
