New agreement with territorial hunting area worth 76,000 euros will lead to a 'massacre'

BOLOGNA – They are the fearsome claws and animalistic behaviors of badgers, foxes, porcupines and otters to be "guilty of the disastrous consequences of floods and inundations".In fact, their burrows weaken the banks of rivers and canals and therefore they must be killed. It's the thought I second the International Animal Protection Organization, Oipa, inspires the agreement signed by the Province of Ravenna and the related territorial hunting area, Atc, for the realization of which 76,000 euros have been allocated equally between 2023 and 2024.The Association asks for the withdrawal of the act which, "if it were not a measure that will cause deaths and injuries among the animals, would be laughable".In fact, instead of allocating funds to deal with the real causes of disasters due to floods and inundations, "the Province of Ravenna prefers to provide 76,000 euros to hunters for the costs of what is necessary to capture the animals and for the purchase of other consumables", and therefore "bullets, firearms or compressed air weapons, traps".With the same funds it will also be possible to cover the costs of disposing of the carcasses and any costs of the provincial police personnel employed in control activities.Once the massacre is over, concludes Oipa, "we will realize that the real problem is not the fossorial species but man and his mismanagement of the territory".
