Changemakers:a hackathon unites young people for climate justice

It is aimed at young people between 20 and 35 years old throughout Italy.hackathon that will take place online Thursday 7 November 2024 from 5pm to 8pm, organized by Cesvi in collaboration with Indicate and with the experts of Euclipa (European climate pact) e Sydic.

The hackathon – i.e. a creative marathon in which people from different backgrounds participate to combine different skills in solving a problem – will take place a few days before the Climate Conference (Cop29) and will simulate an emergency climate summit organized by the United Nations.The activity is part of the “Changemakers for Climate Justice” project.Young people in action for climate justice” co-financed by Aics – Italian Agency for Development Cooperation as part of the Changemakers project, which has as its leader WeWorld.

The Changemakers project aims to contribute to the development and strengthening of a concept of citizenship understood as belonging to a global community, for a more sustainable and just world.The protagonists of this change are the young people who have demonstrated how it is possible to claim the attention of the institutions, demanding a necessary and epochal change.

The action involves school institutions, youth associations, environmental movements and citizens, each in their own educational function, each supported by a different project partner: Pandora Cooperative, Cesvi Ets, the UNESCO chair of the University of Bologna, Indire, ActionAid And WeWorld.

In this case, the concomitance of Climate conference provides the starting point for deepening our knowledge of how the international negotiations:the hackathon will in fact offer young participants, organized in groups, an interactive activity, the "Climate Action Simulation", which simulates the dynamics of international climate negotiations.
The will be used  En-Roads simulation model (developed by Climate Interactive) that enables the exploration of key technologies and policy solutions to address global warming.Sydic experts will conduct the activity as one simulation of a real emergency climate summit organized by the United Nations, which convenes the various parts of the planet to establish a "concrete" plan aimed at limiting warming in accordance with the objectives ofParis Agreement.

To frame this activity in the broader context of managementclimate emergency, the Euclipa.it association and the representatives of Indire, who will contribute with Sydic to the organization of the hackathon, will propose two online moments, before the simulation, on the importance of enabling citizens to stimulate municipal administrations to implement policies local climate mitigation and adaptation.
