The first week of summer is glorious.Once the second week arrives, you almost want to go back to school early.Get that thought out of your head:There are plenty of activities to try, so take advantage of the opportunities and look for something that catches your attention.

  1. Is there something you always wanted to learn, but didn't think you could?In the summer, you may have the free time you need to learn something new.Here are some suggestions:
  2. Almost everywhere, summer is a great time for outdoor sports, if the heat is bearable.If you don't already have a favorite sport, there's no better time to find one.
  3. Make a movie. Invite some friends and come up with ideas for a movie.You can make a science fiction story, a cooking competition or a music video.If your project starts, it will keep you entertained for weeks, thanks to the work needed for the script, costumes, extras and editing.

    • Make cold, refreshing smoothies.Try different or strange combinations, to prepare a nice cold summer drink, or to challenge friends to drink your strange concoction.
    • Make a chocolate and peanut butter parfait for dessert.

  1. It will keep you busy, introduce you to new people and allow you to earn some money.Many shops, tourist attractions and summer festivals need seasonal workers.
  2. Volunteer. Helping the community can bring satisfaction and improve your mood – and of course support a good cause.Look for organizations that collect trash, work with injured or abandoned animals, or are interested in political causes.

If your current friends are out of town or busy, look through old class photos, phone books, and email contacts and reconnect with the people you once knew.All of the activities described above are more fun with friends, and spending an afternoon together reminiscing about old times can be fun too.

Having fun when it's hot

  1. If you live in an area where summers are hot, you can have fun and cool off at the same time.Go to the beach or pool with friends or family. Play games in the water like cops and robbers or dodgeball, organize swimming races or play water polo with friends.
  2. Even if you don't have a place to swim, you may find ways to have fun with the water.Put on a swimsuit or light clothes that you don't mind getting wet and find some warm friends to participate in these activities with you:
    • Turn on the garden sprinklers and play cops and robbers, hide and seek or steal the flag among the sprays of water.
    • Have a water fight.Fill some water bottles, buy cheap water guns or use pumps.It can be a fun activity not to be repeated...or the start of a water war.
  3. A cold drink or a bowl of ice cream can be great when the weather is hot.Preparing them yourself is also a cure for boredom.

    • Make popsicles and always keep the freezer stocked.
    • Fill the fridge with ginger or lemonade homemade.
