THE ANCIENT APPIA
Walking on theAppia Antica, along the traces of history:there “Regina Viarum”, recently recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of the oldest and most important Roman roads, a "bridge" between Rome, Brindisi and the East, overlooked by archaeological treasures and more. The excursion to Ponte Leproso brings to life the traces of the ancient Via Appia;to Montesarchio you come across the suggestive Castle and the Archaeological Museum of Sannio Caudino (which preserves the wonderful crater depicting the Rape of Europa), and then head for the medieval village of Sant'Agata de' Goti.Walking along the ancient route, before arriving at the "Eternal City", the stop at Capua and Santa Maria Capua Vetere offers the wonders of the Campanian Museum, the Campanian Amphitheater (second only to the Colosseum in importance and size), the Mithraeum and the Gladiator Museum.
