BOLOGNA.– On public transport strike days in Emilia-Romagna, vehicles with euro 4 and euro 5 engines will also be able to circulate, despite the traffic blocks. The exemption will be included in the next regional air quality plan (Pair 2030).This was anticipated by the undersecretary to the presidency of the Region, Davide Baruffi, responding in the Legislative Assembly to the question of the FI councilor, Valentina Castaldini.“The orientation of the Council is in favor of the inclusion of an exception in the event of a strike– explains Baruffi – we want to guarantee the right to strike and the right to mobility.Furthermore, where possible, we want to focus on smart working".
37 STRIKES IN 2022 AND 36 IN 2023
Castaldini's request started "from a look at reality", i.e. from the fact that nIn 2022, 37 strikes were called in the transport sector and 36 in 2023.“Those who have reduced the use of private transport in favor of public transport, and due to sporadic use have chosen not to renew their Euro 4 or Euro 5 vehicle, as it is generally not used in the city, find themselves unable to travel during the days of strike for public transport - underlines the blue - also the students, for whom the Region invests huge economic resources to encourage the use of public transport through the 'Jump on!' project, during the days of strike often find themselves unable to attend lessons".
