While in Italy in September the sale of electric cars grows, thanks above all to the contribution of incentives, with a + 29 percent, reaching a market share of 5.2, the analysis by type shows a heavy decline in sedans and SUVs in the A segment (the most compact cars, to be clear, those designed for the city), at 8.1 and to 1.7 percent of the total market (source Unrae).
On the other hand, that of electric city cars it is a segment that is progressively enriched with new proposals.Among the latest announced, Inster, the first electric city car from the Korean brand Hyundai, whose debut, in the two versions, a more urban one and the outdoor-inspired Cross, is set for early 2025;The November 5th in Bologna will end on roadshow which allows you to preview the Inster.
Hyundai Interior:autonomy, charging times and price
Inster, zero-emission city mobility according to Hyundai; This is how a note from the Korean manufacturer summarizes it, announcing its arrival on the market in early months of 2025 (at prices around 24-25 thousand euros), underlines how the designers intended with the Inster to combine "the modernity of Korean culture with the brand's vision of a progressive and sustainable future, with an ecological, innovative and versatile design".
We are talking about an electric vehicle with a refined design, designed for the city, 3.82 meters long, with an electric autonomy declared up to 355 kilometers in mixed use e up to 470 kilometers in urban driving, with flexible and “circular” interiors, two versions (with 42 kWh battery and 71.1 kW motor or 49 kWh battery and 84.5 kW motor) and the interesting functionality Vehicle-to-load which allows you to transform the car into a "column" for charging e-bikes or electric scooters.
For i charging times, the Inster recharges from approximately 10 to 80 percent 30 minutes, using DC columns up to 120 kW, while an 11 kW on-board charger is supplied as standard;instead they serve as 4 hours to 4 hours and 35 minutes depending on the battery if you use home charging.
Among the options, a paint obtained from end-of-life tires
But what is Inster? For now we have seen it in static form, which is why we limit ourselves to a summary:definitely an A-segment city car, albeit with the model Crosses, as mentioned, winks at SUVs and in general at the outdoors, practical, flexible in the use of the interiors (we will see better later), suitable for the city, where parking maneuvers appear to be particularly easy, thanks to cameras and sensors, in addition of course to the compact dimensions.
Among the features, the possibility for customers to customize the external appearance with variations regarding the LED headlights and the combinations of paint and roof colour.Speaking of paint, a note from Hyundai specifies that for the exterior some versions offer one black paint made from recycled waste tires instead of the carbon black pigments traditionally used.
Bidirectional charging powers e-bikes and scooters
Inside, Inster offers a 10.25-inch digital instrument panel, plus a similar touchscreen for infotainment. There is wireless charging for the smartphone, the possibility of customizing some finishes, all the seats can be folded down and folded (the rear ones can also slide to increase space for luggage or passengers).
Inspired by thatcircular economy to which the automotive industry is also paying ever more attention to some interior components for which polyethylene terephthalate (PET) recycled from bottles and bio-polypropylene extracted from sugar cane are used.As anticipated, the functionality Vehicle-to-load (present on other Hyundai electric models, such as Ioniq 5 And Ioniq 6) allows the Inster to supply power to external devices (with voltages of 110V or 220V), allowing the bidirectional charging, useful for charging e-bikes or scooters.
Outdoor contaminations for the Cross version
To the more urban version of the Inster, Hyundai has added Crosses, with the aim of "combining a design with a strong outdoor vocation with all the features of the new model in terms of connectivity, safety, internal spaces and technology", as specified in a note.
The Cross version, which will arrive in Italy shortly afterwards, i.e. in the first quarter of 2025, can be recognized by the different front and rear bumpers, the raised black wheel arches, the front and rear protective elements, the 17-inch alloy wheels with a specific design also suitable for driving on rough roads, the roof rack bars and the possibility of adding a specific roof rack designed to load sports equipment and generally to increase practicality, as well as to emphasize the "adventurous" character of the Inster Cross.
