The corporate carpooling as a solution to decongest traffic in cities, obtaining environmental, economic and – why not – benefits from the point of view of social relations.That of share the home-work or home-university commute with colleagues and employees of neighboring companies is a habit that is starting to take hold in Italy, also because it uses already active technologies and does not require new infrastructures to be implemented.The number of shared trips is concentrated above all in the north, with the province of Turin firmly in the lead among the most virtuous ones.Man, between 30 and 39 years old, traveling in a small car for a journey of approximately 25 kilometres:this is the "identikit" of the Italian carpooler that emerges fromNational observatory on corporate carpooling 2024, made by Jojob analyzing the data of shared journeys made last year.
In the lead are the provinces of Turin, Alessandria and Bologna
In 12 months, traveling the same shared route made it possible to eliminate 212,410 cars from the roads, saving almost one million euros and to avoid the emission of 641 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere.Corporate carpooling is especially popular with north, where 63.9 percent of trips were concentrated;the center (20.6 percent) and the south (15.5 percent) are decidedly further behind.The Piedmont stands on the top step of the podium both at a regional level with over 116 thousand trips made, and at a local level:it is indeed Turin the most receptive province for corporate carpooling, with commuters saving 859,385 kilometres, over 172,000 euros and 111 tonnes of CO2;numbers that also include those of Co&Go project, the territorial community created to encourage shared mobility in all 312 municipalities of the Metropolitan City.In second place is another Piedmontese province, Alexandria with 41,399 trips taken, followed by Bologna with 28,555 shared routes.
Corporate carpooling is especially popular with millennials
Corporate carpooling now involves thousands of workers and students who choose to share the journey above all for convenience, stress reduction and the possibility of transforming the journey into an opportunity for socialising.The more numerous they are men, which carry out 62 percent of trips compared to 38 percent of women.As for instead age of carpoolers, 32.5 percent of the total are between 30 and 39 years old, 28.3 percent are between 20 and 29 years old, while 21.7 percent belong to the range between 40 and 49 years old.
