The University and the Ducati Foundation take to the track with electric vehicles, not just to participate

BOLOGNA – “Are these guys the engineers of Ducati's future?Surely. We do all this so that it is useful to them, but there is also a very strong corporate interest. The young people who emerge from this path are not only the most passionate ones. But also those who worked hard to overcome difficulties by working in a group. We can say that the Ducati MotoGP team for the next 10 years already has many trained kids, who represent lifeblood for companies."Thus Claudio Domenicali, CEO of Ducati, applauds the many university students gathered this morning at the 'red' headquarters in Borgo Panigale. They were the protagonists from 11 to 15 October, under the Unibo Motorsport banner, of motostudent 2023 competition taking place on the Motorland Aragón international circuit, in Spain:they achieved first place with Nemesi, the electric motorcycle they designed on the premises of the University of Bologna alongside the Ducati Foundation as their main partner. And to think that, until a year ago, not even a single piece of the electric 'fireball' was ready in the workshop.Challenging dozens of young 'electric' teams, arriving from all over the world, the Unibo-Ducati prototype (“Nemesi”) first passed the technical inspections and then the dynamic tests, arriving in pole position and therefore winning the race.

Nicolò Cavina, faculty advisor of Unibo Motorsport, confirms everything and recalls:“Seven years ago we met with Claudio, I was just talking about an idea and it all started from there”.Davide Bertozzi, chief technical officer of the Unibo-Ducati 2023 team, also reveals how the Bolognese team, in full fairplay, helped other competing teams dealing with operational difficulties. And Bertozzi continues: “The engine chosen by the competition, which all teams have to use without being able to manipulate it, was not pleasant and during the testing season it caused us a lot of damage, with many sleepless nights. But we found the optimal set-up in the end”.For example, in the final six laps of the race the electric motor would not have been able to always run at maximum, or it would not have held up, and therefore it was decided (successfully) to save it.The 2023-2024 challenge will therefore be even more demanding, to confirm all the prizes won.But Marco Bertuccioli, CTO already in the saddle for the 2023-2024 season, assures that "we will try" again.
